Contest 1 - The Karaoke Stage

Karaoke, anyone?

We all know about MoonRat's unfortunate karaoke addiction. (The first step is admitting you have a problem, Moonie!)

Contest: What should be MoonRat's "theme" song and why? What song encompasses the loveliness and brilliance and goodness that is MoonRat? Alternately, name a song that you'd LOVE to see MoonRat sing on karaoke night and why.

Deadline: 9 pm ET TONIGHT

Prize: One $25 Amazon gift certificate donated by Ello

Judge: Moonrat, of course, or a surrogate named by her.

I wanted to rewrite lyrics to Moonriver for Moonrat but I am clearly not a lyricist as I kept getting stuck on the wider than a mile line...

Moonratty, wiser than a pile...

See I'm stuck again. Oh well, someone else has got to step in now...

Does she sing anything but J-pop? I don't think I really understand that genre. (JES will get that reference, if no-one else does!)

Given the amount of stress she puts herself under, I fear the Stones' 19th Nervous Breakdown might be appropriate.

However, I'd like to nominate Over The Rainbow - so wistful, so aspirational. That's how I think of her.

I'm not sure if Robert is The Wizard or The Wicked Witch....

Ah, pooh, Ello beat me to it, I was going to suggest Moonriver, because, well, it's just so moooooonie...
C'mon, Ello, maybe we can do something together?!

so, here are the next two lines, El...

You create your own style each day
Oh, author maker, dream creator...

Purely for the entertainment factor, Crazy in Love by Beyoncé. I'll have to think a while about a "meaningful" song.

Muskrat Love by the Captain and Tennille.

Or perhaps, Moondance by Van Morrison.

I nominate "Welcome to the Jungle." Editing is like hacking your way through a jungle at times. So is writing. Publishing is a jungle with lots of bloodthirsty creatures and quicksand and beautiful, poisonous flowers. Plus, some of those lyrics sound pretty funny when a girl sings them. I know. I did it.

Maybe I should think of something more inspirational. oh, oh, what about that Celine Dion/Titanic song?

I would love to hear Moonie sing either of the following. I would pay to watch and I am notoriously cheap.

Cowboy's Sweetheart is my favorite, but He Taught Me To Yodel is fun also.

Happy anniversary, Moonie.

In honor of this Rat year in the Chinese Zodiac, may I suggest Al Stewart's cheesy Year of the Cat, modified, of course, to Year of the RAT?

Precie said...

I would say "Dancing Queen" but I suspect Moonie already has that in heavy rotation and would like something new.

Ah! For the eternal optimist, from Annie..."The Sun'll Come Out Tomorrow"!

Moonshadow - Cat Stevens - just because I can picture a whole bevy of little moonrats dancing in the moonshadows, and singing...

How about Bad Moon(rat) Rising?

I see a bad Moon(rat) rising,
I smell laundry on the air,
I see Michael Chabon's lawyers,
Restraining orders everywhere.

I'm new to the Moonrat thang so I shan't stick my neck out too far.

What about Rod Stewart's 'The First Cut Is The Deepest'?

Muskrat Love is perfect!

Change it to Moonrat and we have a fitting title! But I never knew the lyrics though. Muskrat sounded stinky to me so I always thought of it as the stinky love song...

"tempted" by squeeze.

Modern English's "Melt with You."

Except for the, uh, "making love with you was never second best," the lyrics seem to appropriately demonstrate what Moonrat aims for with her blog readers and authors---there's nothing you and I can't do...the future's open wide...I've seen the changes and it's getting better all the time, etc.

Do I win?! Do I win?!

Muskrat Love
Written by Willis Alan Ramsey, ©1971

Muskrat, muskrat candlelight
Doin' the town and doin' it right
In the evenin'
It's pretty pleasin'

Muskrat Susie, Muskrat Sam
Do the jitterbug out in muskrat land
And they shimmy
And Sammy's so skinny

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin' and jingin' the jango
Floatin' like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

Nibbling on bacon, chewin' on cheese
Sammy says to Susie "Honey, would you please be my missus?"
And she say yes
With her kisses

And now he's ticklin' her fancy
Rubbin' her toes
Muzzle to muzzle, now anything goes
As they wriggle, and Sue starts to giggle

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin' and jingin' the jango
Floatin' like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

La da da da da ...

Moonshadow by Cat Stevens.

Oh, I'm being followed by a Moonrattie, Moonrattie, Moonrattie.

Though my first idea was Janet's -Ben, the two of us need look no more/We both found what we were looking for...

Peace, Linda

all awesome selections!!!

I'm picking "Moondance," Colorado Writer!! The reason is because I already know how it goes, which is REALLY important especially if you're going up in front of a small crowd. And it's not in my current rotation, and as Precie theorizes, I could use some mixin' up.

However, tonight I'm going to practice "Muskrat Love" until the RM cries.

word verification: sesterca. sounds like a turkish lyric poem.

Awesome!
It's a marvelous night for a moondance! Or day.

I'm currently high on cold meds, so whatever.

HUGS MOONIE!

So, you're not even going to try to learn to yodel? I have to cancel my trip to New York and the Karaoke Tour?
